During his September 2015 visit to the US, Mr. Xi Jinping in one of his first speeches dismissed the concept of the Thucydides Trap as a flight of fancy. The reference to concept is the talk* delivered on 12 September 2014, five days before Mr. Xi Jinping was to meet Mr. Narendra Modi and broach the subject of the Maritime Silk Route of the 21st Century. The talk created a stir. It was rushed to Beijing and taken note of by the Chinese government, national television as well as the print media.
